Real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
A stool-based molecular test for the detection and differentiation of common intestinal parasites, including Cryptosporidium spp., Giardia lamblia and Entamoeba histolytica.
The faecal parasite test is designed to detect and differentiate selected intestinal protozoan parasites in human stool samples. The test targets Cryptosporidium spp., Giardia lamblia and Entamoeba histolytica, which may be associated with gastrointestinal infection, diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort, bloating, and other digestive symptoms. This test utilizes real-time PCR technology for enhanced sensitivity.
The test may be useful for individuals with symptoms suggestive of gastrointestinal infection, those with suspected exposure to contaminated food or water, or as confirmation of parasite findings identified during microbiome testing. Results should be interpreted by a healthcare professional together with symptoms, travel or exposure history, and any additional laboratory findings.
