Real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
Molecular screening test for common sexually transmitted infections (STIs), using Real-Time PCR technology for accurate detection of bacterial and protozoal pathogens associated with genital infections, infertility, and pelvic inflammatory disease.
The STI Screening Test is designed for the detection and differentiation of common sexually transmitted organisms using Real-Time PCR technology. DNA is extracted from the collected specimen, amplified, and analysed using pathogen-specific fluorescent probes.
The test screens for:
Neisseria gonorrhoeae (gonorrhoea)
Chlamydia trachomatis (chlamydia)
Mycoplasma genitalium
Mycoplasma hominis
Ureaplasma urealyticum
Ureaplasma parvum
Trichomonas vaginalis
Analysis may be performed on urine samples and female self-collected vaginal swabs and is intended as an aid in the diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections when interpreted together with clinical findings and risk factors.
