Full Description

The STI Screening Test is designed for the detection and differentiation of common sexually transmitted organisms using Real-Time PCR technology. DNA is extracted from the collected specimen, amplified, and analysed using pathogen-specific fluorescent probes.

The test screens for:

Neisseria gonorrhoeae (gonorrhoea)

Chlamydia trachomatis (chlamydia)

Mycoplasma genitalium

Mycoplasma hominis

Ureaplasma urealyticum

Ureaplasma parvum

Trichomonas vaginalis

Analysis may be performed on urine samples and female self-collected vaginal swabs and is intended as an aid in the diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections when interpreted together with clinical findings and risk factors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I get this test?
This test provides rapid and accurate screening for several common sexually transmitted infections that may cause genital symptoms, infertility, pelvic inflammatory disease, or may remain asymptomatic. Early identification may assist healthcare professionals in determining appropriate treatment and follow-up.
What sample type should I choose?
The following options are available:

First morning urine, collected in a sterile container that can be obtained from any pharmacy, provides a reliable, straightforward option. Drop off this sample at The Bio Arte within two (2) hours of collection.

For the highest sensitivity in females, vaginal self-swabs are preferred. A vaginal self-swabbing kit can be delivered with the test kit. Collect the sample following the instructions provided and drop it off at The Bio Arte within two (2) hours of collection.

For additional stability for our EU customers, Colli-Pee® devices are a practical alternative to collect first morning urine. Choose this option to have the urine collection device delivered with the test kit and mail it using the prepaid express return shipping pouch within three (3) days of collection. Samples collected with this device remain stable at ambient temperature (20-25°C) for up to 7 days.

Note: Adherence to transport times and avoidance of contamination are critical to ensure accurate results.
What is a Colli-Pee® device?
Colli-Pee® is a patented urine collection device, which allows volumetric and standardized collection of first-void urine. Urine collection with this device is easier than with a standard container for both males and females. It also contains a DNA preservative that stabilizes the sample for shipping at ambient temperature (20-25°C).
Where can the sample be collected?
Samples can be collected in the comfort of your home, provided that they reach the laboratory within the above-mentioned stability times.
How do I prepare for sample collection?
Follow the sample collection instructions provided, depending on the preferred sample type. First morning urine should be collected. Standard urine or vaginal swab samples should be dropped off directly at the laboratory within 2 hours of collection to ensure optimal testing quality. The laboratory address is:

The BioArte Ltd.

Malta Life Science Park (LS2.1.12 – LS2.1.15)

San Ġwann, SGN 3000, Malta
What is included in the report?
Your report includes:

Detected and non-detected organisms

Interpretation of findings with information relevant to the identified pathogen(s)
How do I interpret the results?
Results should be discussed with your family doctor, genitourinary specialist, or other healthcare provider, who can interpret them within the context of your symptoms and medical history.
What does IVD mean?
In vitro diagnostics (IVD) tests are medical diagnostic tests that are used for the diagnosis, monitoring, or treatment of diseases or medical conditions in humans. In contrast to other, research use only (RUO) tests, IVD tests are regulated by governmental agencies and are required to meet certain performance standards before they can be marketed and sold to the public. This is an IVD test.
Do you ship worldwide?
This service is currently available only for customers living in the EU.
Can I order individual sections of the panel?
There are three options as indicated on the cart:

N. gonorrhoeae, C. trachomatis and M. genitalium testing

T. vaginalis, U. urealyticum, U. parvum and M. hominis testing

Full panel (all the organisms above)
