Full Description

The faecal parasite test is designed to detect and differentiate selected intestinal protozoan parasites in human stool samples. The test targets Cryptosporidium spp., Giardia lamblia and Entamoeba histolytica, which may be associated with gastrointestinal infection, diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort, bloating, and other digestive symptoms. This test utilizes real-time PCR technology for enhanced sensitivity.

The test may be useful for individuals with symptoms suggestive of gastrointestinal infection, those with suspected exposure to contaminated food or water, or as confirmation of parasite findings identified during microbiome testing. Results should be interpreted by a healthcare professional together with symptoms, travel or exposure history, and any additional laboratory findings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I get this test?
This test may help identify selected intestinal parasites that can cause gastrointestinal infection and digestive symptoms. It may also be useful when a parasite finding from microbiome testing requires targeted confirmation.
Which parasites are detected by this test?
The test detects and differentiates between Cryptosporidium spp., Giardia lamblia and Entamoeba histolytica.
How do I prepare for sample collection?
Follow the instructions provided to collect the stool sample in the dedicated container. Fresh samples are recommended where possible, but the container provided includes stabilizing agents. Samples should be collected cleanly and should not be contaminated with urine, toilet water, disinfectants, or cleaning products.
How do I interpret the results?
A positive result indicates detection of parasite DNA for the organism reported. A negative result means that no target DNA was detected for the organisms tested. Results should be reviewed with your doctor, especially if symptoms persist or if there is a relevant travel, exposure, or household history.
What does IVD mean?
In vitro diagnostics (IVD) tests are medical diagnostic tests that are used for the diagnosis, monitoring, or treatment of diseases or medical conditions in humans. In contrast to other, research use only (RUO) tests, IVD tests are regulated by governmental agencies and are required to meet certain performance standards before they can be marketed and sold to the public. This is an IVD test.
