Coeliac disease is an immune-mediated condition triggered by gluten in genetically predisposed individuals. This test assesses the main human leukocyte antigen (HLA) risk types associated with coeliac disease, particularly HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8.
The absence of HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8 makes coeliac disease unlikely and can help effectively rule it out with 99% certainty. A positive result indicates genetic predisposition but does not, by itself, confirm a diagnosis. Positive findings should therefore be discussed with a healthcare professional and considered together with clinical and laboratory information.
Testing is performed using the VIASURE HLA Celiac Real-Time PCR Detection Kit for diagnostic detection of the main HLA alleles associated with coeliac disease.

How do I prepare for sample collection?
Do not smoke, eat, drink anything except water, brush your teeth, or chew gum for at least 30 minutes before collecting your buccal swab sample. Collect the sample immediately after opening the swab package and follow the labelling, collection, and return instructions provided with the kit.
How do I interpret the results?
A negative result means that the HLA-DQ2 or HLA-DQ8 risk types were not detected, and coeliac disease is effectively ruled out for 99% of such cases. A positive result indicates that an HLA-DQ2 and/or HLA-DQ8 risk type was detected. This shows genetic predisposition but does not confirm that you have, or will develop, coeliac disease. Discuss the result with your healthcare provider for further evaluation.
